Historic Beginings
It will interest you to know that the Nigeria Oil & Gas Industry Games was started in 1986 in Eket, by the NNPC and ExxonMobil with a few participating guests from other companies competing for the available medals in Squash. It has grown into a mega biennial sporting event for all confirmed employees of the Oil & Gas companies spanning the Upstream, Midstream, Downstream, Regulatory and Service sectors in Nigeria. Tennis, Table Tennis, Golf and Swimming were added to the schedule of events in the subsequent edition of 1988. While Football debuted as an event in 2000. Scrabble, Chess and 8-Ball Pool was included in the 2006 edition, Sprint Athletics was added to spice up the closing day events in 2010 and has remained a feature ever since. In 2012 the games were further expanded to include Basketball, and in 2020 Volleyball and Badminton were the last events to be included on the schedule.
